Summer days are longer, but they pale in comparison to the length of the ongoing economic recession. Unemployment rates are still fluctuating, with some regional outlooks better than others – which means job seekers who are willing to relocate may have new hope. The housing industry remains uncertain but could have some relief in later 2010 – early 2011 as even more prior homeowners could be transitioning into apartment rentals as they continue to regain footing from the economic downturn and loss of jobs. Setting ourselves apart at the property level is what will continue to be the primary way of bringing in new residents and keeping the ones we have. Experienced and customer-satisfaction-driven employees make all the difference. As employees become comfortable with their jobs, so customers are able to become more comfortable with those employees and relationships are more easily built.

In this quarter’s letter we examine Employee Retention - how turnover rates affect customers and general working conditions for new and tenured staff, as well as risks the company takes in not turning more focus on this key component of customer service.
